So many reasons to love today’s DIY wedding, held at the Ladybird Wildflower Center in Austin, TX. The colors were inspired by lemons and limes, which played a role throughout the wedding! The gorgeous photography is by Katherine O’Brien.
The flowers were bought in bulk and arranged the day before the wedding. Heather’s sister made the bouquets and boutonnieres.
Heather found a pair of green satin shoes and dyed her petticoat yellow to go along with the color scheme.
For favors, Heather and Russell provided vintage handkerchiefs for their guests’ tears of joy, and paper parasols to keep them cool.
Russell wore a white tux and black bowtie, inspired by this photo of his parent’s wedding. Sweet!
There was no shortage of drinks, with jugs full of lemonade, mason jars filled with lime water, and bottles of Mexican cokes, Topo Chicos, and Dr. Peppers in galvanized tubs. Of course, we love the striped paper straws!
The dessert table is our favorite part–it looks totally yummy! Inspired by a country bake sale, Heather and Russell had their favorite cupcake bakery made six different cakes. Hand stamped labels marked the cakes, with intriguing names like the James Brown, Marilyn Monroe, Black and Tan & Strawberry Love!

I love the vintage feel of this wedding. And those green shoes - so adorable. Thanks for sharing these really great photos. It really captured the essence of this wedding. I'm putting together my sister's wedding in the Spring and gathering as many ideas as I can. Your article definitely helps me in this process. I've also been reading a really great book out called, "The "W" Day," by expert designer Giulia Macchia. It’s highly inspirational - from the beautiful pictures to the text. I highly recommend this one to all brides to be.
