Bret and Libby had a gorgeous DIY country wedding at Walnut Grove with an amazing dessert table! It looks like a perfect day, with decor of beautiful pastel colors, yummy food, and a stunning location in California.
Comments from the bride: “I found our wedding venue a good 6 months before we were even engaged and knew that, without a doubt, I would soon be getting married there. The trees, the lighting, the open space, the butterflies dancing around, everything just looked perfect. Four days after we finally got engaged we booked the venue without looking at a single other wedding venue!”
Outdoor Wedding at Walnut Grove
“We had an 18 month engagement which gave me more than enough time to get ready for our DIY Country wedding. I began by collecting any and every empty jar we used for cooking to use as flower vases. My Uncle also scoured central Illinois for turquoise mason jars from farms and ended up shipping me over 100 of them. I took some of the empty clear jars I had collected and either modge podge’d lace or burlap on them to give them a country look. My florist then filled them with the most gorgeous ivory, peach, and pink flowers on the day of the wedding. With the help of my now husband and my mom, we made our own burlap and lace napkin holders (thank you, Pinterest for the idea!) and collected 190 miss-matched china plates. I handmade our nephew’s ring pillow as well as our second ring bearer’s ‘Here Comes the Bride‘ sign and they both turned out adorable! All of my inspiration came from Pinterest, wedding blogs, and just random ideas I came up with on my own and had been storing in my brain the last 27 years”
Advice from the Bride
“Don’t go crazy with invites! We had 190 and it was really overwhelming; there were some people I never got to meet! I was stuck between greeting people and wanting to dance with my friends and ended up not being able to party as much as I had wanted to. Also, make sure somebody understands your wedding day vision so that way everything turns out exactly how you want it. Everybody always says to take a minute to yourselves and sit back and enjoy the day. Honestly, we never had time for that! I wish somebody would have pulled us aside and told us to just sit and look around because the whole day went by and I never even saw half of the decoration, tables, flowers and other beautiful decor that I had put so much work into.”
