I am still seeing a lot of chalkboard decor in weddings, and I definitely won’t question why. Chalkboards are simple, cheap, and allow you to be as creative as you want. If you know someone with an artistic flare then you can really design your wedding chalkboard to fit seamlessly with wedding decor.
I was inspired by a chalkboard I saw in Ally and Ian’s Wedding, which we featured on Love and Lavender. In fact, I was so inspired by their ornate chalkboard sign, that I created a DIY ornate chalkboard sign project for my own wedding.
Chalkboard Placement Ideas
There are many places you can choose to incorporate a chalkboard sign within your big day. With that in mind, I have put together an inspirational collection of where to place chalkboards and also where to buy them online.
1. Warm Welcome & Activity Timeline
Guests like to be informed. I find it a tad awkward if I have to stand around somewhere and I don’t know what to do next. Give your guests a brief overview of your wedding day along with information on what they can expect.
If you choose not to have ceremony programs, you could use a chalkboard to layout the ceremony order and as a wedding party guide.

Perhaps you already have a beautiful chalkboard sign. If that’s the case, make sure to get a good easel to hold it up.
2. Give Directions
Some of your guests will be unfamiliar with the layout of your wedding venue. Help them find their way around by putting up a chalkboard directional sign.
Offer directions from the parking lot, or put this sign on telephone poles a few streets down so that guests know they’re heading in the right direction.
If you are having a wedding on a large property, there may be a few different areas to the lay of the land. Make sure your guests know where all the main areas are with the sign post.
