I love that this bride and groom decided to get married on Friday the 13th, also a full moon night, which is known as a “honeymoon.” Whether you fear Friday the 13th as an unlucky day or not, the honeymoon doesn’t occur very often. In fact, the next honeymoon won’t occur until October 13th, 2019. All those in favor of getting married on said honeymoon have ample time to plan your wedding!
Today’s lovely couple dreamed of having the perfect destination wedding. However, they realized that important family and friends wouldn’t be able to share their wedding with them if they were to wisk off to Italy. Instead, brought a bit of Italy to them and opted for a gorgeous vineyard wedding at Villa de Amore that incorporated elements of a destination wedding in their décor. Old world style venue meets new world fashion for the best of both.
Overall Ceremony and Reception Theme
“I had always dreamed of a destination wedding, but as Jon and I started planning, we knew we had too many friends and family members who wouldn’t have been able to make the trip abroad. And frankly, we couldn’t have imagined getting married without all of our loved ones by our side to celebrate. That’s when we decided to bring the destination to our guests.
The grapevines of our vineyard wedding at Villa de Amore, in Jon’s hometown of Temecula, made us feel like we were instantly transported to Tuscany. Stamping our invitations with vintage airmail postage, marking our tables with postcards from destinations Jon and I had visited over the course of our relationship, writing personalized postcards for our guests at each place setting, and a paper airplane send off at the end of the night were all fun ways to incorporate our love of travel into our day.”
Best advice for planning your wedding
“We heard from just about everyone that your wedding day flies by in a blur. That’s no joke! With this in mind, we wanted to make sure we had as much time as possible to enjoy our celebration with our guests, and have the whole day well documented in pictures in case our memories were hazy.
We took the majority of the pictures before the ceremony so we could enjoy the rest of the day with our guests. We also asked our photographer to take individual pictures of us with every couple and family during the reception. This was our way to ensure we shared at least a few precious moments with all of our loved ones. We were especially excited to share a copy of the picture in the thank you cards we sent home.”
Describe the Bride’s Attire
“My lace, column gown was from the Vera Wang White collection for David’s Bridal. I wore heels for the ceremony, and changed into crocheted TOMS, a gift from my mom, for the reception.”
“I gave my girls each a pair of TOMS sandals to slip into after the ceremony. I also changed into a pair of crocheted TOMS, as comfy shoes are much more conducive for dancing the night away!”
“Jon and his groomsmen were decked out in suits, ties, and socks from Express. Jon’s shoes and belt were from Banana Republic.”
Highlights from the ceremony and reception
“Our highlight, for sure, was the first-look we shared together. Jon’s emotional reaction the moment he saw me was oh-so-sweet, and melted my heart. Coming to the realization that we were about to become husband and wife, and being able to share a few quiet moments together before the mayhem of the day began was so special. And we loved that our photographer captured my bridesmaids and mom sneaking a peek from around the corner.”
“Our only requests for flowers were succulents and lavender. From there, our stylist Soiree Design and Events designed gorgeous bouquets and centerpieces with softer, muted shades of purple, green, and white. Our bridesmaids carried bouquets of lavender, and the groom and groomsmen donned succulent boutonnieres . My bouquet was made up of mostly succulents, lavender, white peonies, and white roses. Our planter box centerpieces, made by Jon, included white and green hydrangea, lavender, olive branches, stock, and succulents. Simply gorgeous!”
Describe the bridesmaids’ Attire
“I love the mix-matched bridesmaids look, so I just asked my girls to find a gray dress. The shade and style of the dresses, as well as their accessories, hair, and shoes were completely up to them. They looked amazing! The four flower girls, our nieces, wore ivory, lace dresses to complement my gown. And our ring bearer, my nephew, wore a navy blue suit to match.”
What did the Groomsmen get as a gift?
“Our brothers were our groomsmen, and Jon and I bought them their suits, ties, and socks as a thank you for being a part of our wedding party.”
“One of our favorite details of the day were the handwritten postcards to each of our guests at their place setting. We wanted to express to our loved ones how happy we were to have them there to celebrate with us. They also took home vintage-inspired packets of wildflower seeds, personalized with our names and date of the wedding.”
Where did you go on your Honeymoon?
“Jon and I traveled to Greece and Turkey for our honeymoon, visiting the amazing cities of Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, and Istanbul. We were fortunate enough to spend several nights in each location, giving us plenty of time to relax and unwind!”
Mykonos – Dorian Hotel
Santorini – El Greco Hotel
