Bridgeview Yacht Club Wedding in Coral and Teal Colors
The pops of coral and teal in this Bridgeview Yacht Club wedding are just stunning. In addition, the ceremony backdrop is very much like the colorful wedding at the Inn at Cooper Spur from last week that we featured. Its super cute and creative, not to mention very budget friendly. I’ll let the bride tell you more about her big day.
Bridgeview Yacht Club Wedding
Comments from the bride: “We started wedding planning a few weeks after we engaged. Growing up, I was never the girl who envisioned her wedding so I wasn’t exactly sure what kind of wedding I had wanted. I knew there were a few main components that I would like to factor into planning. We’re not very traditional, so we didn’t want anything too traditional. We also knew we wanted our wedding to reflect our personalities and our love of the ocean. I really wanted to go for a whimsical/boho/nautical kind of vibe.
Tell us a about your wedding venue
“We looked at several venues on the water, and none of them felt very us. Bridgeview Yacht Club is located about 5 minutes away from where we live in Long Beach, NY and it was one of the last venues we viewed. We had initially hoped to have a destination wedding, so we were hesitant to look at many local venues. The moment I walked through the doors at Bridgeview, I knew this was it. It was warm, yet elegant. The ballroom blew me away with it’s beauty. The sky high, tented ceiling and chandeliers took my breath away. Samantha, our coordinator was beyond friendly and extremely helpful. Any question that I had, no matter how silly or outlandish, she responded to almost immediately. We brought my mother and Maid of Honor back a few days later to see the venue and the only date they had available in the warmer months was the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, August 30th. We booked it immediately and got to work on finding vendors.”
How did you choose your wedding photographer?
“In my opinion, the most important vendor was the photographer so we began our vendor search there. We met with several of them and I just didn’t click with any of them. I wanted a photo journalistic style, with a touch of whimsy. My ideal photographer would be someone I would be comfortable being around on the big day, during very intimate moments. I met with Martina one evening in early October and her style of work was exactly what I was looking for. Martina gave off a great energy and her photos were to die for. We booked her immediately. We chose our DJ, makeup, hair, and florist all based on the recommendations of friends.”
Describe your wedding planning process
“I really enjoyed the wedding planning process. The vendors I worked with were very professional, easy to contact and very open to giving suggestions. I really wanted to stay true to who I was, and to who Jon and I were as a couple at this point in our lives so every decision was based on those grounds. Many weddings that I have gone to, I feel like they were just weddings that were planned without keeping the couple in mind. I wanted people walking away from our wedding saying that it was very Jen & Jon.”
Describe your wedding ceremony and reception decor
“Pinterest helped immensely with different ideas since we were working with a fairly tight budget. We didn’t want to spend a lot on flowers, so we went with lanterns filled with candles, sea glass, and votives as centerpieces, on a bed of coral rose petals. I really love the ambiance that an abundance of candle light gives off, and the rose petals just complimented that romantic look. I loved the nautical look of navy striped table cloths, so we found a local linen company on the recommendation of our florist, which really pulled the whole look together.
“Pinterest also came in handy when I was trying to decide on ceremony decor. I didn’t want to spend a lot because we were having a very short, simple ceremony, but I wanted something that looked a little different. I found the idea of ribbon curtains through Pinterest. I’ll admit that once I had purchased the one I had ultimately chosen for our ceremony, I was a little hesitant, until it was hung up on the arbor on our wedding day. It was absolutely gorgeous and the colors worked really well with our wedding colors (coral and navy).
“I also wanted a different look for our cake table. Jon wanted a fairly simple, clean looking cake, so we chose a white fondant with navy roping, coral flowers, and a gold anchor. The table was covered in sand with our names and wedding date written in it, as an homage to the way we had gotten engaged, along with a cake topper of a couple in beach chairs.”
Tell us about your wedding day look. How did you choose your wedding dress?
“As for my look, I wanted my makeup to look as natural as possible, but to still pop. I don’t wear a lot of make up in my everyday life, but Kelly of Glam Me Up did a fantastic job of making me feel beautiful without not feeling like myself. My hair dresser Cynthia made my dream of having big mermaid hair a reality.
“I wanted to incorporate coral into my wedding day look, since my bridesmaids were in lace coral Adrianna Papell dresses. I found coral heels on BHLDN on Cyber Monday, marked down drastically, and I found a stunning headpiece with coral flowers and pearls on Etsy. My dress was purchased before we had even booked Bridgeview.
“Katie May happened to be having a trunk show in early August of 2013 at Lovely Bride NY. I managed to get an appointment, and I fell in love with the dress from the moment I put it on. I could not have pictured myself on my wedding day in another dress.”
What was your favorite moment from your wedding?
“The entire day was perfect beyond words, so it’s really difficult to chose one moment that is my favorite. I guess I would have to say (aside from my dress, seriously I love that dress!) it is a tie between the beginning and end of our wedding.
“When I was standing at the altar looking in Jon’s eyes, and then looking around at all of our friends and family. After the fun morning I had with my girls (can you really beat a dance party and mimosas?), the moments I had alone with my mom, and the first look Jon and I had on the beach, it still hadn’t completely sunk in that after the months and months of planning, this was it. The moments before we were pronounced husband and wife were was so surreal. It was like we were both saying “this is really happening” with our eyes. The very last song played during our reception was Mr. Brightside by The Killers, which is our song. Our friends and family lined up on both sides of the dance floor and Jon and I danced our butts off in a flurry of bubbles and rose petals. It was the most perfect day ever and I wish I could relive it every single day.”
