“Bachelorette Party Dress Code:
Please wear black, feather boas will be provided.”
As with many North American bachelorette parties, you rarely see groups stray from this norm. In fact, the pic below showing me with some of my gals for my bachelorette party is pretty typical!
Nautical Themed Bachelorette Story
After living in the small town of Carrick-on-Shannon (Ireland) on and off for the past two years, I can honestly say I have seen my share of spandex, glitter, wigs, onesies and sailor hats! I unknowingly moved to the Hen (a.k.a., bachelorette party) and Stag (a.k.a. bachelor party) capitol of Ireland.
On any given Friday or Saturday night, it is a regular occurrence to see large groups of young men or women walking down the main street headed to one of the pubs. Dressed up in either matching costumes or perfectly coordinated to a certain theme, I always find myself smiling at the spectacle!
One early summer night, I was visiting with a friend who worked as a night reception manager at the local hotel. As we chatted at the front desk, a large group of Hens came pouring out of the elevator one by one, each dressed in a nautical sexy sailor themed outift.
They were dressed to the nines, and I had to remark on how much effort they must have put into coordinating their outfits so well. I told my friend that in North America (Vancouver anyways) it would be rare to see a group put so much effort — unless of course on Halloween.
I absolutely loved how they looked!
My friend responded by saying that she could always tell which group had more money by the effort they put into their costumes. And she wasn’t kidding. These ladies were done up as if there were a massive prize at stake.
I will always remember that hen party. In fact, it inspired me to do a round up post and share my top ideas for a nautical themed bachelorette party.
Its all the rage over here in Europe to get dressed up with your best girls. I think North Americans should up their game and do the same. After all, it is the last sail before the veil, so why not have some fun?
Tip: Start off by enforcing a mandatory dress code of sexy sailor costumes. The bride-to-be can dress in white while the rest of her crew can go in smashing navy blue! People will spot you all from a mile away. Trust me, you will be the bachelorette party that everyone remembers.
If your not into the whole sexy costume scene, I found some adorable nautical shirts to choose from instead.
