Office Christmas parties will probably look a lot different this year.
No mingling around the punchbowl recounting the year’s most hilarious stories. No serious side-conversations about important projects. And worst of all, no in-person exchange of secret Santa gifts. Although for some, that last one’s probably a huge relief.
But there’s no rule that says you can’t continue the gift-giving tradition online. Office parties are important for lots of reasons and right now people need the extra cheer of coming together. Erm…. apart.
In the absence of Lillian’s annual office desk dance-a-thon to make your coworkers smile, we hunted around for some gifts that are extra special and smile-inducing!
Gifts for Coworkers This Christmas
1. Decision Maker Coin
To stay up later or not to stay up? That is the question.
This one’s perfect for those who’ve developed a love/hate relationship with Netflix binging during 2020. When the ‘right’ choice isn’t the easy one, this coin absolves your co-worker of making the choice themselves. If they’re dragging when they get to work after a long night of Orange is the New Black, the coin is to blame.
2. Elephant Desk Organizer
This desk organizer is so unique and beautiful, it not only complements any home office (or old-school real office), it’ll also make the workday a pleasant experience. After all, who doesn’t love hanging with elephants?
3. Blue Q Socks
by Blue Q
Take your pick. Blue Q makes bold women’s crew socks with a message to convey. We were particularly partial to “Stop Talking” .
4. Sassy Planter & Succulent
Plants make any space more lively, but the messages on these planters up the ante. Punny lines like “I wet my plants” and “What up, succa?” boldly printed on the white ceramic pots will draw laughs every time, and the hardy succulents will keep them smiling.
Another hilarious addition to any office space, this Flipboard of sarcasm and humor will always convey just what your co-worker is vibing without even having to utter a word. Includes a blank dry-erase card and marker to customize messages.
6. Perfect Sticky Notes
by Knock Knock
Is your co-worker obsessed with sticky notes? Elevate their experience and productivity with these perfect sticky notes. They’ll accomplish more, organize better, and let everyone know exactly where the last week’s assigned tasks fall on their priority list.
7. Personal Air Circulator Fan
This stylish little air circulator comes in 7 cool colors and its compact size will fit neatly into any space. Don’t let the size fool you though – this little fan can move some air.
With its pivoting tilt head and swivel base, they’ll be able to direct the flow anywhere they need. No more wafting stink from Bob’s gym socks in the cube next door.
8. Personal Ceramic Heater
Fact: everyone’s office is freezing, especially in the summertime with the AC cranking. This cute personal ceramic heater will take care of that. Your co-worker can stick it under their desk for toasty feet and legs all day.
9. Fancy Umbrella
This fancy umbrella blocks 98% of the UV rays and stays 4 times drier than your average umbrella. In other words, it’s not the kind of umbrella you want to forget at the bus stop. No worries, because it folds up easily to fit in a bag or purse, so you won’t leave it behind. It also features auto open and close with the touch of a button.
10. Day’s Last Light Candle
Whether you choose the eucalyptus, lavender, or linen fragrance you really can’t go wrong with this luxurious glass candle. Your coworker will love the instant calm that comes with it to signal the end of a long day.
11. Pretty Personalized Journal
Around here, we’re of the opinion that everyone can use a journal, particularly one as pretty as this.
With hundreds of designs to choose from and their name printed on the cover, your co-worker will love using this journal to record their reflections.
12. Modern Summit Water Bottle
You can never have too many reusable water bottles and your office mate will thank you for contributing to their collection with this stylish bottle. Available in sizes from 14 to 84 ounces, it’s perfect for even the most ambitious water drinkers looking to squeeze in at least six to eight glasses a day.
13. S’Well Stainless Layered Coffee Tumbler With Teak Outer
This tumbler will keep your workmate’s coffee hot for up to four hours. Or, if they fancy a cold brew, it’ll keep it cool for up to 17 hours.
The icing on the cake is how stylish it is. Classy with its teak encasement, the lucky recipient will surely field compliments on it all day long.
14. Luxe Hand Sanitizer
Everyone needs a bottle of hand sanitizer on their desk these days (and in their car, in their purse, ev-ry-where), so why not give the fancy kind?
This one’s plant-based, toxin-free, smells amazing, and is nice to your hands. Did we mention it smells great? Ya, that’s a real bonus in our opinion!
15. Dammit Doll!
by Dammit Doll
Don’t underestimate the cathartic therapy of whacking a dammit doll across the desk before you throw it across the room. Your co-worker will thank you for the stress relief!
16. Ultimate To-Go Container
Packing lunch has never been so easy! This great container has everything they’ll need to pack the ultimate lunch, including a perfectly-proportioned tube for dressing. The best part? Except for the reusable ice pack, it’s all dishwasher safe.
17. Mini Desk Vacuum
He may be a toy, but spilled hole-puncher chads stand no chance against this adorable (and we do mean adorable) mini vacuum. All of his attachments fit neatly inside his canister, and there’s no worrying about filters.
Everything from silica beads to shredded paper is easily sucked up into the removable drawer.
Gift-Giving Etiquette in the Workplace
It’s really not that hard to figure out what’s acceptable and what isn’t when it comes to gift-giving in the workplace. It all boils down to common sense. We’re sure you really don’t need a reminder to keep it professional.
We published a list a little while back for great gifts for your boss and in it we discussed what’s considered appropriate and what isn’t. This article is similar, but with two other key considerations: holidays, and multiple people.
Most workplaces are diverse these days (hurray for that!), and there’s a pretty good chance not everyone on your team celebrates Christmas. Some people may even feel a little uncomfortable getting a Christmas present at all.
The best thing to do in that situation is to ask your boss or supervisor what they think. Alternatively, ask someone that’s a close friend of the recipient whether or not a Christmas gift would be well-received.
If you’re not doing Secret Santa or Dirty Santa this year, refrain from giving gifts at office parties unless you’ve got something for everyone. If you’re only giving a gift to one or two people, wait until after work or lunchtime.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, etiquette states that the boss shouldn’t expect a gift, but if you want to give them a token of appreciation, click over to this article on gifts for your boss for inspo.
Tis’ The Season To Be… Lonely?
Hopefully, by the time the holiday season rolls around, we’ll all be headed safely back to the office and everyone can get on with their lives.
If not, it’s all good – don’t let it dampen your holiday spirit! Anything you’d buy at the stores you can most likely get online, which is why we love sharing gift ideas and lists like this one!
We’re thrilled to help you find the best Christmas gifts for your coworkers this year. Whether they get to open it in person or on a Zoom call, it’s always the thought that counts. And remember, you’ll probably get a few mystery boxes on your doorstep from Santa too.
Happy holidays everyone!
