Proper Etiquette to Send Funeral Thank You Cards
A: Two to three weeks is nice, but let’s face it, you may not be up to it. That’s fine too, there’s no deadline. Anyone sending you their condolences and sympathies will understand and appreciate it whether it takes two weeks or two months. Or not at all.
If you don’t want to write them but would still like to send out funeral thank you cards, it’s never too much to ask a beloved friend or family member to take up the task if they’re ok with it.
A. What you say depends on how personal you’d like to get and if you’d like to be specific about your thanks. These are just a few examples, and your situation will merit different messages. If you would like to send out a generalized note, there are plenty of cards that convey sincerity without getting too personal.
Here are some sample wording examples:
1. For a guest who attended the funeral: “Thank you so much for attending my grandfather’s funeral, your attendance honors his presence.”
2. In response to a card of condolence: “Your card was so touching. Your kind words are appreciated and will always be remembered.”
3. For those who’ve contributed and helped during the difficult process: “I can’t thank you enough for [insert contribution such as: your generous donation / the beautiful flowers / etc ]. You’ve helped us through such a difficult time, and your kindness will be forever appreciated.”
A. Anyone you want to, or no one at all. You could send one to the funeral home, funeral director, or just a wonderful friend who went that extra mile with a thoughtfull gesture to give you great comfort. Remember, there shouldn’t be any pressure on you to send out thank-yous while you’re grieving.
Considere sending a note of thanks to anyone who sent flowers, cards, went to the funeral, or who helped support you through the process.
Wishing You Gentle Healing
If you’re coping with the loss of a loved one, you have our sincerest sympathies. Like anyone who’s experienced a loss that profound, we know all too well how difficult it is.
If you feel compelled to send funeral thank you cards, we hope those we’ve chosen here resonate with you and saved you a little time scrolling the internet. Sometimes taking even the smallest thing off someone’s plate while they’re grieving can make a big difference.
