We know it’s been QUITE the year, but can we please give a shout-out to all the amazing teachers out there? For all that they’ve done this year (and every year) to educate and nurture our children they deserve our thanks!
And what better time to let them know how much you appreciate their role in your child’s life than Christmas? To help you out, we’ve put together a list of teacher Christmas gifts that are both thoughtful and practical.
Oh, and we’re just going to put it out there now: there are zero Christmas ornaments on this list. Instead, we scouted around for gifts that your teacher will be able to use any time of the year and beyond the classroom.
Quite frankly, most of the gifts on this list are ones WE would love to receive and we’re betting your kid’s teacher will love them too!
Practical Christmas Gifts For Your Teacher
1. Tote Bag
Giving your child’s teacher a tote with a personal message is a wonderful way to show appreciation and love. The bag itself measures 15” x 16” x 3.5” with a 3” gusset and is made from 100% non-woven polyester. Best of all, you can add a personalized inscription. A circle of printed leaves and colorful flowers sets off the inscription. Lovely, heartfelt, and useful.
2. Personalized Stamp
Your kid’s teacher can spread his or her message of love, support, and encouragement again and again with this personalized stamp. This one is handmade and features an attractive oak stamp body and a silver ball, which indicates the correct direction to apply the stamp. Choose from a large variety of ink colors, including Cranberry, Irish, Lilac, Pumpkin Pie, Wicked Black, and 11 others.
3. Personalized Pencils
These pencils will remind him or her of your child’s love and appreciation every time they use one. You get to write the inscription, which appears on the eraser end of the pencil for longest use. Do take note that the maker copies the inscription exactly, so capitalization, punctuation, and spelling appears just as you wrote it. You might want to get your child to proofread the message!
4. Library Card Socks
Cute and unique, these comfy socks are printed to look like a blank library check-out card. Perfect for book lovers, library lovers, and, well, anyone who likes fancy socks. These ones are made of cotton (75%), nylon (10%), polyester (10%), and spandex (5%). They come in small and large sizes and are made to fit both women and men.
5. Personalized Candle
For a gift that shines, this candle says a special “thank you” each time your child’s teacher lights it. You add the teacher’s name to the main message, “Thank You for Helping Me Shine.” The natural, scented wax burns for as long as 40 hours. As if the candle’s not pretty enough itself, it even comes in a gold-foil gift box. Choose from four delightful scents.
6. Hydroflask Coffee Tumbler
by Hydro Flask
This stainless steel tumbler sports an ergonomic design, which makes it comfortable to hold, and it keeps your coffee, tea, or other beverage hot (or cold) literally for hours. That makes it perfect for those long days (and nights) of grading that teachers, erm, always look forward to! It comes with a lid and is BPA- and phthalate-free too.
7. Water Bottle
This water bottle is perfect for the environmentally-conscious teacher. Made with Therma-S’well technology, it’s vacuum-sealed, reusable, BPA/BPS-free, and does not produce condensation. The bottle has a wide mouth so you can add liquids and ice cubes easily. Made to keep beverages cold for 41 hours and hot for 18 hours. Importantly, the company that makes this bottle is a Certified B Corp, which means they adhere to the highest levels of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
8. Fancy Pen
This beautiful pen by Parker is also a practical writing tool. The color and design is “Premium Deep Gun Metal Chiselled”, which gives this pen an attractive, classic appearance. The tapered shape delivers simplicity, style, and comfort. Besides being stylish, its quick-flow ink allows for smooth, effortless writing. Comes in a stylish Parker gift box.
9. Succulent and Personalized Stake
A great way to remind your child’s teacher of love, affection, and encouragement. These plant stakes can be personalized with a heartfelt message from you and your child. The maker hand stamps each letter onto the stakes exactly as you indicate (in other words, double-check your message!). At 3-¼ inches long, these plant stakes are made of hypoallergenic, food-grade, long-lasting aluminum.
10. Wine Glasses
You can inscribe these wine glasses with a personal message to let your child’s teacher know you love and appreciate them. The message is deep-engraved onto the glass so it cannot wash or wear off. The glasses hold 20 fluid ounces and are available stemmed or in a seamless mug style. If you think it would be appropriate, consider pairing the glasses with a bottle of vino that any wine drinker would love.
11. Letter Board
These magnetized letters are made in a Harry Potter, “Witches and Wizard”-inspired font. They are one-inch high and are manufactured from a plastic material for durability. Your order contains 125 letters so your child’s teacher can write just about any message — reminders, notices, or just pleasant greetings. Store the letters in the handy little baggie.
12. New Yorker Teacher Cartoons Book
Teacher experiences are sometimes joyful, terrifying, exciting, and fun — or all of the previous put together. The New Yorker Book of Teacher Cartoons, 2nd Edition, captures these feelings in this romp through the world of teaching. Drawn by the New Yorker magazine’s top cartoonists, these cartoons provide a portal into the classroom — at bewildered students, demanding parents, and at teachers in particular. The book includes over 100 cartoons and addresses recent changes in the field of education. Can you tell we especially love this gift idea?!
What could be more appropriate and useful than a custom-made nameplate for your child’s favorite teacher? This one has a traditional, classic look and provides years of pride and pleasure. It is made of steel and is hand-stamped with the teacher’s name using vintage lettering. After stamping the name of your choice, the maker buffs the nameplate then applies wax to coat it for a protected, attractive patina.
14. Magnetic Notebook
Ever wish you could take a page out of your notebook to make a copy or scan it, and then replace it without damage? Well, now it’s possible! This unique notebook is a wonderful gift for teachers. It has a magnetic spine that holds the pages in place but makes them easy to remove and replace, too. You can use the paper you need, or change it, at your pleasure. Change from lined paper to plain, white to color, low-grade to high grade.
15. Personalized Bookmark
This is an excellent gift for a teacher and will probably be the best bookmark he or she has ever owned. Made of full-grain, premium leather, these bookmarks are handmade in Texas where they are stamped with the personal inscription that you choose.
Select from five different colors: Rustic Brown, Dark Brown, Rustic Gray, Black, or Saddle Tan.
16. Gift Cards
It’s hard to imagine a more versatile gift for your child’s teacher. You have literally hundreds of stores or places of entertainment from which to choose; you can gift any amount; and they never expire.
You can gift a card for Apple, Whole Foods Market, Best Buy, Nordstrom, Taco Bell — even services like Uber and DoorDash, to name only a few. These are a practical, welcomed gift that will put a smile on the teacher’s face immediately.
17. Gift Basket
Great gift ideas come in baskets, and you can find gift baskets to suit almost any interest (especially if that interest is food!). They range from Rosé All Day (wine, crackers, and cheese) to Bakery (cookies and brownies) to Haunted Halloween (Reeses, candy corn, popcorn), and many more. Your choices even include gluten-free and chocolate-only gift baskets. Start thinking of the basket you can put together for your child’s favorite teacher. You’ll enjoy giving it as much as they enjoy receiving it.
Giving Teachers a Practical Gift
Almost everyone has a favorite, influential teacher they remember fondly. There’s no way to put a price on the value one receives from such a powerful source of inspiration and love. Teachers create a space in one’s life that did not exist before. For that, we can be eternally grateful.
A wonderful way to express love and appreciation is through a unique gift. One that you took the time to pick thoughtfully, with the intangible gifts in mind that you and your child have received from a favorite teacher.
