13 Perfect Proposal Ideas for “Will You Be My Bridesmaid?” Cards

Like many women, I consider my besties to be some of the most important people in my life. My maid of honor and bridesmaids were right by my side while I was planning my wedding, from start to finish.

Our wedding party was relatively small and I only had a couple of bridesmaids, so I didn’t send out the official “Will you be my bridesmaid” cards or bridesmaid proposal boxes. I gave them each a small gift which they appreciated, but it didn’t fully capture how grateful I was for their help and friendship. If I had it to do all over again, I would’ve gone all out.

If you’re putting together proposal gift boxes for your girls, the girls here at L&L would be thrilled to help you out! We’ll begin by laying out a quick overview of what it’s all about. Then we’ll share some perfect bridesmaid proposal cards to help you pop the question.

What Is a Bridesmaid Proposal?

When he asked you to be his wife, he proposed with a ring. When you ask your crew to be your bridesmaids, you propose with a card and a thoughtful gift to show them just how much their involvement means to you.

You should send bridesmaid proposal cards ASAP. Should they accept, being a bridesmaid means helping with pre-wedding events like the engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, and more.

You want to give them as much time as possible to prepare. The bridal party will need to arrange their schedules, make travel plans if you’re having a destination wedding and/or bachelorette party, help plan out the festivities, and get fitted for dresses. That’s a lot to accomplish, and they’ll need plenty of time to get it all done.

Planning and organizing without a time crunch means much less stress and much more party time for everyone!

What’s Included in a Bridesmaid Proposal?

What’s included in your bridesmaid proposals depends entirely upon your budget and time constraints. For some, simple written invitations and gifts they can use on your wedding day (jewelry, hair accessories, etc.) are just fine.

Other brides prefer to send comprehensive proposal gift boxes along with an official “Will you be my bridesmaid” card. These boxes can include things like:

A bottle of wine. Or airplane bottles of fancy booze, wine tumblers, etc.

Items to pamper them. Things like bath bombs, candles, or mani/pedi kits are always welcome gifts.

Practical things they can use on your wedding day (or the day after!). A mini “emergency” kit is always fun! Include things like ibuprofen, Tide pens, emergency hair ties and bobby pins, hangover relief gag gifts, etc.

Gifts to Leave Out of Bridesmaid Proposal Boxes

Too much swag with “bridesmaid” all over it. Keep in mind everyone loves to receive gifts they can use well after the wedding is over, so if you include things like mini bathrobes or jewelry and you’d like to personalize them, it may be a good idea to use their name instead of “bridesmaid.”

An itinerary and list of “duties.” Leave the organization of pre-wedding parties to them. Unless they’ve asked you to, scheduling things like the bachelorette party, dress shopping, and the bridal shower yourself is kind of a “bridezilla” move.

Extravagant gifts. Remember the movie “Bridesmaids?” Remember when Helen threw Lillian a bridal shower and gave everyone a puppy? Yeah, that was awkward.

Avoid giving your bridesmaids something bananas in their proposal gift boxes if you can’t afford it. A sincere token of your love and appreciation trumps giving expensive stuff out of a sense of obligation any day.

Now that we’ve given you some general info, let’s check out some bridesmaid proposal cards!

Share the Love

If you’re fortunate enough to have the kind of friends who’ll stand by you through thick and thin, you know how precious they are. They comfort you when things are bad, celebrate with you when things are great, keep your secrets, and hold your hair if you’ve had too much to drink.

So let’s raise a glass to our girls, shall we? Here’s to many, many years of embarrassing each other in public, making each other laugh until we cry, and braving life’s most important milestones together. Cheers!
