Wedding Story & Gallery

Halloween is almost here! What better way to celebrate than with this amazing styled shoot from Vancouver, Canada. We simply adore Jax, the featured black cat, and his heart warming story.

Event Planners’ Comments:

“The story of this Halloween shoot is that our groom has been transformed into a black cat, and that our Bride is patiently waiting for him to return to her in human form.

“We loved the idea of a Halloween shoot, but didn’t want it to feel too kitschy, so went for a more haute Halloween vibe. We played with the idea of black on black, that we think a lot of people are afraid off out of fear it’s too dark. Using textures of black builds depth while the glass accents help to soften the shade and Jax ,our black cat model, fit into this theme perfectly.

“We worked to incorporate precious stones and crystals as well as the ‘potion bottles’ favors, to add dimension to the tables cape. We also wanted to include layers of purple, which came through in jewelry, makeup and the beautiful cake. Our favorite element was the black smoke bomb that was ignited and was set up behind our model, Justine Sane, who channeled her inner mystical goddess.”

Furry model Jax

“Our black furry model Jax is a character all on his own. Me (Tarina) being Jax’s mama, I knew he likes to walk with our dog and for the most part is pretty chill. We planned the shoot basically around the premise of Jax being himself. During the photo shoot he gave us mostly blue steel vibes when needed. We loved his custom bow-tie made by Beaux.

“We’d like to put some emphasis on how cats are often overlooked for adoption when they are black, as was the case with Jax, who was in care for over 60 days. Black cats are unfortunately still linked to the superstition of bad luck. Jax was adopted over 4 years ago from the Richmond SPCA. He sat in my lap and put his paw on my leg and I knew he was my baby and had to come home with us.”

Vanity Setup

“The beautiful bright window filled conservatory in Cecil Green Park House was perfect for the setup of the vanity, provided by Past Pieces.

“For the decoration we used vintage items such as a gold mirror, perfume bottles and a silver tray. They were combined with other decor items including a real Parisian gargoyle and tarot cards.”

Sweetheart Table

“The sweetheart table was decorated with mosses and a beautiful hanging flower construction by Jorbelina Flowers. The black on black theme was reflected in the table cloth, the plates, napkins and the place cards, with beautiful calligraphy by Past Pieces.

“Other unique items in this setup were the purple glass goblets, skull, gold owl figurine and the grey (faux) fur draped over the chairs.”

Bride’s Look

“For her first look, the black electra dress by Hannah Tikkanen seemed made for our model Justine Sane! This dress has a great combination of the sequin lace bodice, which gives it a shiny look, with the soft tulle skirt, with slit opening at the front.

“The large purple amethyst druzy teardrop pendant from OhKuol combined perfectly with this dress.”

“With the model’s fun white streak and her amazing long black hair, Carly, the hair stylist decided to keep her hair long and added soft curls. Perfect for Halloween!

“Justine’s makeup included purple tones with some bold shimmer, to give it more punch. The combination made her eyes up.

“For the second look, Justine’s hair and makeup stayed the same, but she changed into the grey and taupe Ophelia dress.”
