Leslie & Michael

DIY Bohemian Wedding at Mitcham’s Barn

Spokane, WA

Bohemian Casual DIY Rustic

L&L Remarks

It has been quite some time since we last saw a naked cake. I was quite excited to see one today in this DIY bohemian wedding set on a farm wedding venue called Mitcham’s Barn in Spokane, Washington.

Wedding Story

Remarks from the photographer: “Michael and Leslie wanted an intimate wedding that felt like them. Throughout the entire day and into the evening they went barefoot, walking down the aisle, taking photos, even dancing late into the evening. After the ceremony Leslie surprised Michael with a private serenade that she learned on her ukulele. There was no part of this wedding that did not scream with emotion.”

Bridal Q & A

Overall theme for the ceremony and reception

“Either ‘us’ or ‘relaxed’, if either of those are a theme. There was a lot of reflection in each part of the wedding, we just wanted to have a good time hanging out with people we love. We wanted to keep it as stress free as possible so we would remember each moment.”

Describe the Bride’s Attire

“I bought my wedding dress from David’s bridal and had a family friend add little cuff sleeves and shorten it so I could be barefoot.”

Best wedding planning advice? Any tips to share other brides?

“I have the same answer for both parts: breathe and remember whatever goes wrong you are getting married to your best friend at the end of the day. People told me over and over, but after we lost all of the music (hand picked each song) I thought for sure it wouldn’t be a great day. I was ridiculously wrong.

“Another tip –  while in the planning process constantly remind yourself to not let the day fly by in a haze. A LOT of people say they don’t remember their big day, which is so sad. Don’t feel flustered and overwhelmed, think about what is happening so you will remember it.”

Describe the bridesmaids’ Attire

“I wanted my girls to love their dress and buy something they would want to wear again. So, I had them all buy their dresses from wherever they wanted – some went online (a couple from modcloth) and one of my sisters just went to a department store. The shoes were hand painted by myself with their titles on the front and some colorful swirls and design along the sides. The back of one had an L&M and the other had 9.27.14″

Describe the Groomsmen’s Attire

“The boys’ outfits were a lot like the girls in that we basically told them any shade of tan/brown pants with a white shirt and brown, tan, or green suspenders, along with any shoes they wanted (within reason).”

Which pieces of music did you use during the ceremony?

While guest were seated: Beirut and Sigur Ros

Bridesmaids/Groomsmen: 8mm by Yann Tiersen

Brides entrance: Saeglopur by Sigur Ros

Recessional: Animal Arithmic by Jonsi

What did you give your bridesmaids as a gift?

“I bought some plain canvas shoes from a craft store called Hobby Lobby and painted them for all my girls.”

Describe the Groom’s Attire

“We didn’t want Michael to look too fancy because the rest of the wedding was so laid back. So we kept it simple with dark green Arizona jeans, a white Calvin Klein button up, and a slim fit j.ferrar tan vest, no shoes for him either.”

What were the highlights from the ceremony and reception?

Ceremony: I was stoked that my nephew made it down the aisle as cute as could be. Also, the weather was PERFECT. We were surrounded by trees and I could feel a slight breeze as we read our vows; I couldn’t have asked for a better set up for the ceremony.

Reception: We danced ALL night. The reception ended early, but it was perfect. Everyone who set the lights up did an amazing job, the atmosphere was great, I loved everything about it.

What did the groom give to his groomsmen as a gift?

“For his best men/brothers he engraved both a shot glass and a traveling mug. For his groomsmen he got personalized shot glasses.”

What types of flowers did you have?

“I bought flowers in bulk online and we did our own arrangements/bouquets with white alstroemeria, white gerbera daisies, white limonium, white daisies, and white snapdragons.”

What wedding favors did you give your guests?

“I made heart shaped bird feeders!”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We stayed in a cabin on Priest Lake.”
